ART RITUALS

The glass box, tools, books, patterns, paints, music, body and movement.

For some artists, the creative process is a fluid sequence of interconnected, almost choreographed, events. The process and the outcome become one single entity. There is a beginning to every story, but there may not be an end.

Between 22nd - 28th of February, Yuliya will share her artistic process inside the Art in the Docks space. As a multi-disciplinary artist, Yuliya merges painting, clothes making and dance (butoh) in one continuous cycle of creation, destruction (death) and rebirth. One thing always leads to another.

For most of us, our lives are based on daily rituals that follow the familiar paths and patterns we create. The artistic process is unique and consists of multiple rituals, changing states of being, evolving states of expression and awareness.

The inner artistic space in which we create and explore our vision of reality is an intensely private place. Sometimes we find ways reach out to something or someone, offering a visual insight to our emotions. How someone reacts becomes their own personal experience: a unique moment, where there is no ‘right’ and no ‘wrong’. Through the glass walls of the Art in the Docks space you will have a chance to witness the intimate moments of a creative process. This is where your own journey begins.

Working in multiple disciplines and mediums, each of these can be a subject for performance or be a performance in itself. These performances will seek out artistic mischief, chaos and order, creation and destruction and constant reincarnation of one state into the other.

Each day one new element of the cycle will be explored and then the process will restart the next day.

Yuliya will perform to the soundscapes of 'Hemisphere' and 'Entropolis' composed by her long-time collaborator Nick Parkin.
