Scrolling Along
by Neda Dana-Haeri
Taking inspiration from a new poem each day, using a variety of brushes and pens, I worked from a different Persian poet every day. The scrolls themselves were created from simple palettes, based around black ink and just one or two colours letting the forms, shapes and textures of the scroll help the journey develop as they unfurl. Unlike static canvasses the linearity of scrolls imply movement, the viewer however dictates the direction…they decide the pieces’ start and their eventual destination and just as every journey is unique to each traveler so every opening of a scroll will be different.
The poets were: Rumi, Khayyam, Hafez, Forough Farrokhzad and Tajalli Keshavarz. Although each day was focused on one poet, I kept a long scroll going for the week to be the journal of the whole voyage.
The experience was inspiring and having the concentrated time to reflect and focus was very rewarding. This was a great initiative of @artinthedocks to engage with the community, which was very successful in creating a curiosity and awareness.
