Of all industries, the fashion industry is one of the least eco-friendly. This emotionally driven and capricious business - where a garment is initially desired and valued only to quickly loses appeal, where in the final stages it is discard and replaced by another, is a sad cycle that creates one of the least sustainable and environment friendly production models.
For the poor garment, gazing tearfully into the abyss of the dustbin, it is as sad an ending as any tragic opera.
So let’s help this innocent victim, let’s rescue that former loved one and spare them the final indignity of landfill.
Eco-fashion creatress Yuliya V Krylova, invites everyone to learn, experiment and reinvent garments. Giving new life to an old garment can transform the way we think of limited resources, allows artistic self-expression maybe even an better appreciation of ourselves.
Please bring that favourite garment that has lived its day to reinvent it and give it new life. Alternatively, bring your least favourite garment to alter it in a way that makes it the next best thing. There will be materials and tools for you to use to reinvent your garment. We also encourage you to bring your own decorative materials that we can use.
For little participants, there will be an option to draw on textiles free hand or with stencils created from recycled materials.
Our summer programme of activity is supported by Notting Hill Genesis
